Saturday kicked off with a beast mode writing session, but today I barely made 1k words. It was a super lazy day and I don’t regret it. I was able to hit my word count and then some yesterday, but I am mindful of falling behind. Will have to get up early tomorrow and tackle the next section and the demons surrounding it. Maybe I’ll go for a run first to get some of the aggression out. lol.
I gave myself some leeway today because I need to take a step back and really ask myself if I want to go in the direction I’m going. There’s not just the logistics of writing police procedure for Detective Stark and the emotional toll the disappearance has taken on Evie and her family. I have to decide on a plot point that is the symbolic fork in the road. And I have to do that without being too “precious” with my writing. So I’m journaling it out today in my writing journal.
It really is the best writing advice I can share; get a journal and purge all of your hangups until you’re ready to sit down and write your scene. Most of the time the answers to your problems will reveal themselves because it’s an informal free hand way of accessing your internal compass. I find that typing things out is when I feel like a scene is being constructed, and when I journal I feel like my stream of consciousness has room to move. I create there, and mold in the typing stage. In a way that’s what this exercise in blogging during NaNoWriMo is. I get to monitor my progress and hangups as a writer, and maybe conquer some of the demons that can attack you when you try something new and scary.
So, hopefully I will have a little excerpt to share tomorrow. If not I will still share my progress and maybe some writing tips I’ve found that help keep me focused during this month and beyond.
As for #1 Crush, expect to see some super sexy teasers in a bit!
